Educating and Equipping Students from Preschool to Graduation

About Sherwood Christian Academy

At Sherwood Christian Academy, our students are prepared for the world they are entering – equipped in mind, body, and spirit through SCA’s academics, spiritual life, athletics, and fine arts programming. It is SCA’s mission to partner with parents to provide students with a quality, Bible-based education that will lead students to strive for excellence in all things as they become Christ-like leaders in their homes, churches, workplaces, and communities.

Who We Are

Sherwood Christian Academy was founded in 1985 as a ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church to assist Christian parents in the training of their children. We began with 11 faculty members and 256 students in grades K-8. Today, SCA is a growing, vibrant Christian school serving nearly 400 students in grades K3-12 boasting more than 1,000 alumni. Our students represent more than 75 churches from across the greater Albany area. Our size allows every student to be known by name by teachers and peers alike; yet, we offer a comprehensive, college prep, Bible-based educational program that is second to none in Albany! At SCA, we truly have it all!

We Excel.

We are a college preparatory school accredited by both Cognia (formerly SACS) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). We challenge our students to achieve their full potential through excellent classroom instruction and rigorous academic standards. Qualified high school students take dual enrollment courses to be prepared for the next level. Our graduates get accepted into some of the best colleges in Georgia and the Southeast. Our graduates excel at the college of their choice and finish with distinction as they enter their chosen field.

We Believe.

We encourage our students to put 'hands and feet' to their faith and be sold out Christ-followers. At SCA, we purpose to bring all students to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, then build them up in Christ through instruction that is fully integrated with Biblical truth, weekly chapel messages, community service opportunities, and mission trips eventually to launch them out as graduates to serve Christ with their very lives.

We Compete.

Beginning in Fall 2024, SCA will become a member of the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA). We offer competitive, varsity-level sports including football, cross country, volleyball, cheerleading, basketball, baseball, tennis, track, golf, and soccer. We strive to be recognized for our sense of fair play, outstanding effort, and Christ-like character on and off the field.

We Perform.

Excellence is the standard in our performing arts program. From musicals and theater productions to vocal music and visual arts, we are committed to 'bringing down the house' while having a good time. We encourage our students to use and master their God-given talents for His glory.

Our History

1980s
Sherwood Christian Academy exists to provide children with a quality, college preparatory, Bible-based education. This dynamic ministry was birthed through the prayers of the leadership of Sherwood Baptist Church in the early 1980s who sought God to start a Christian day school that would partner with Christian parents in the training of their children.
1985
As God directed, nearly 300 students in grades K3 through 7th began meeting in the old Alliance Christian Church on Stuart Avenue in 1985. Despite its humble beginnings, the school found the favor of God and grew rapidly.
1994
In 1994, the secondary students, grades 6th-12th, moved to the former Riverview Academy property on Old Pretoria Road. This 20-acre acquisition set the stage to further develop the school's programming and student body.
2011
In the fall of 2011, the school added a fully equipped, athletic fieldhouse to its facilities to better serve our athletes and sports program.
2014
In June of 2014, SCA broke ground on a monumental building project through the Meet the Need campaign at Sherwood Baptist Church. The project renovated the existing secondary school, added an elementary wing that would allow for the moving of the elementary students from Stuart Avenue to the Old Pretoria Road campus, the complete renovation of our secondary science lab, and the construction of a state-of-the-art media center, kitchen, and cafeteria in the center of campus.
2016
We opened up the 2016 school year together K-12th grade in our new facilities that rival any private school in the area! We are grateful for our beautiful campus and rich history and look forward to reaching the next generation of children in Albany for the cause of Christ!
