Educating and Equipping Students from Preschool to Graduation

About Sherwood Christian Academy

We’re more than just a school.

At Sherwood Christian Academy, our students are prepared for the world they are entering – equipped in mind, body, and spirit through SCA’s academics, spiritual life, athletics, and fine arts programming. It is SCA’s mission to partner with parents to provide students with a quality, Bible-based education that will lead students to strive for excellence in all things as they become Christ-like leaders in their homes, churches, workplaces, and communities.

Who We Are

Sherwood Christian Academy was founded in 1985 as a ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church to assist Christian parents in the training of their children. We began with 11 faculty members and 256 students in grades K-8. Today, SCA is a growing, vibrant Christian school serving more than 400 students in grades K3-12 boasting more than 1,000 alumni. Our students represent more than 85 churches from across the greater Albany area. Our size allows every student to be known by name by teachers and peers alike; yet, we offer a comprehensive, college prep, Bible-based educational program that is second to none in Albany! At SCA, we truly have it all!

We Excel.

We are a college preparatory school accredited by both Cognia (formerly SACS) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). We challenge our students to achieve their full potential through excellent classroom instruction and rigorous academic standards. Qualified high school students take dual enrollment courses to be prepared for the next level. Our graduates get accepted into some of the best colleges in Georgia and the Southeast. Our graduates excel at the college of their choice and finish with distinction as they enter their chosen field.

We Believe.

We encourage our students to put 'hands and feet' to their faith and be sold out Christ-followers. At SCA, we purpose to bring all students to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, then build them up in Christ through instruction that is fully integrated with Biblical truth, weekly chapel messages, community service opportunities, and mission trips eventually to launch them out as graduates to serve Christ with their very lives.

We Compete.

Beginning in Fall 2024, SCA will become a member of the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA). We offer competitive, varsity-level sports including football, cross country, volleyball, cheerleading, basketball, baseball, tennis, track, golf, and soccer. We strive to be recognized for our sense of fair play, outstanding effort, and Christ-like character on and off the field.

We Perform.

Excellence is the standard in our performing arts program. From musicals and theater productions to vocal music and visual arts, we are committed to 'bringing down the house' while having a good time. We encourage our students to use and master their God-given talents for His glory.

Our History

For more than four decades, Sherwood Christian Academy has been a ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church dedicated to equipping generations of students through academic excellence, biblical truth, and a commitment to Christ.

1985 – A Vision Becomes Reality

A school designed to provide students with an academically excellent Christian education has long been a dream of the pastor and people of Sherwood Baptist Church.

When the Alliance Christian Church and Academy at 2200 Stuart Avenue closed, Sherwood Baptist Church recognized an opportunity to bring that vision to life. On April 24, 1985, the church voted unanimously to purchase the Alliance property.

Following the purchase, a headmaster, teachers, and a secretary were carefully selected. Improvements were made to the buildings and grounds, and the property was dedicated on August 25, 1985.
