Join us in welcoming Mrs. Raylee Etheridge to the math department at Sherwood Christian Academy! With several years of teaching experience and advanced degrees in both mathematics and leadership, Mrs. Etheridge is passionate about helping students thrive.
Her ability to weave laughter, energy, and hands-on learning into even the toughest subjects—like AP Calculus—helps make math more approachable and memorable. This year, she will be teaching AP Calculus, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and College Success. We are excited to see how her expertise and enthusiasm will inspire our high school students to succeed at SCA and beyond!

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education, Master’s degree in Middle Grades Math, & Specialist in Teacher Leadership – all from Georgia Southwestern State University – I am also certified in secondary math (6th-12th).
YEARS LEADING IN EDUCATION: I’ve taught eight years, mostly math, but I’ve also taught ELA, Social Studies, and STEM.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT TEACHING SECONDARY STUDENTS: My favorite thing about teaching middle and high school students is being able to connect with the students and build a relationship with them. While academics are important, my favorite part of teaching is getting to know students. I especially love teaching math and watching students have the “lightbulb moment.” Many students express negative feelings towards math as it is challenging. My goal is not to make all students love math but to build their confidence in themselves and show them they are capable.

FAVORITE HOBBY: I love cooking, gardening, and spending time with my family.
FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: I love to travel, so it is hard to narrow down one place. One of my favorites is Bar Harbor, Maine.

FAVORITE SNACK: Cheez-It crackers and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
AS A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP? Cinderella at Disney World

WHY DO YOU THINK CHRISTIAN EDUCATION IS IMPORTANT AND SPECIAL? Christian education is important to me both as a teacher and a parent. As a teacher, it is an honor and privilege to be able to discuss my faith, pray with students in the classroom, and have Gospel-centered conversations. It is a joy to walk alongside students in their daily lives and be able to point them back to Christ in all situations. As a parent, it is encouraging to me as a believer for my children to be surrounded by the Gospel and pointed to Christ throughout their school day. Excelling in academics is important to me, but most importantly, I value my children’s relationship with the Lord and am thankful they will grow up in a school that prioritizes our Lord and Savior above all else.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY AT SCA? I have only been here a few weeks, but my favorite part of being at SCA so far is having opportunities to hear students pray over their classmates. The environment at SCA is just different. It’s easy to see why everyone loves it here so much.
