SCA TEACHER SPOTLIGHT | Mrs. Victoria Lane

Armed with her trusty Chacos, whistle, and plenty of blue High Fives, Coach Victoria Lane, Elementary PE Teacher for K3-5th grade, is one of the most beloved and well-known educators at Sherwood Christian Academy. Why? Because she makes PE fun, fast-paced, and focused on growth, both physically and in character.

Coach Lane motivates her students to go further than they thought possible. Her famous mile challenges encourage students to rack up the laps, earning tiny “feet” charms for their shoelaces with each milestone. She also rewards teamwork with her signature paper High Fives. When an entire class works together and gives great effort during PE, they earn one. The class with the most High Fives at the end of the quarter wins a prize!

Our younger Eagles love their time on the playground with Coach Lane, while their teachers enjoy a much-needed breather. And if you spend time with her, get ready. She has no shortage of hilarious little Eagles stories, many involving lost teeth!

We’re so thankful for Coach Lane and the energy, care, and fun she brings to SCA every single day.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies and a minor in Sports and Recreation from the University of Mobile, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

YEARS LEADING IN EDUCATION: I am finishing up my 4th year of teaching PE here at SCA! I have had K3-5th grade every year.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT TEACHING ELEMENTARY STUDENTS? Elementary students keep you on your toes! For many of them they are learning how to play different sports and games for the very first time. It is exciting to see how they light up when they master various skills! ….and they always have a fun story to tell.

FAVORITE HOBBY: Running! I just ran my first Half-Marathon in March.

FAVORITE PLACE YOU’VE VISITED ON VACATION: Kauai, Hawaii

FAVORITE SNACK: Coke Zero and TCBY (White Chocolate Mousse with Reese Cups)

FAVORITE MOVIE: Sound of Music

AS A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP? A doctor that delivered babies

WHY DO YOU THINK CHRISTIAN EDUCATION IS IMPORTANT AND SPECIAL? I am so thankful for Christian Education and this school. We are teaching students to view the world through the Word of God. I love being able to show my students how God created us each with different skill sets and abilities.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY AT SCA? My first year of teaching I had a third grader who had not learned how to jump rope. I can remember how excited she was when she was finally able to jump more than once in a row! It made my day!
