History

Sherwood Christian Academy exists to provide children with a quality, college-preparatory, Bible-based education. This dynamic ministry was birthed through the prayers of the leadership of Sherwood Baptist Church in the early 1980s who sought God to start a Christian day school that would partner with Christian parents in the training of their children. As God directed, nearly three hundred students in grades K3 through 7th began meeting in the old Alliance Christian Church on Stuart Avenue in 1985. Despite its humble beginnings, the school found the favor of God and grew rapidly.

In 1994, the secondary students, grades 6-12th, moved to the former Riverview Academy property on Old Pretoria Road. This 20-acre acquisition set the stage to further develop the school’s programming and student body. In the fall of 2011, the school added a fully equipped, athletic fieldhouse to its facilities to better serve our athletes and sports program.

In June of 2014, SCA broke ground on a monumental building project through the Meet the Need campaign at Sherwood Baptist Church. The project renovated the existing secondary school, added an elementary wing that would allow for the moving of the elementary students from Stuart Avenue to the Old Pretoria Road campus, the complete renovation of our secondary science lab, and the construction of a state-of-the-art media center, kitchen, and cafeteria in the center of campus. We opened up the 2016 school year together K-12th grade in our new facilities that rival any private school in the area! We are grateful for our beautiful campus and rich history and look forward to reaching the next generation of children in Albany for the cause of Christ!
